Investigators say Cecilia Drive shooting was targeted; suspect still at large
Santa Rosa police have identified the woman killed in a predawn shooting Tuesday as 47-year-old Mollie Schefer. Detectives say the attack appears targeted and that there’s no broader threat to the public, though the suspect and firearm have not been found.
Officers were called around 4:30 a.m. Sept. 9 to the 1400 block of Cecilia Drive after neighbors reported several gunshots. They found an open back gate and a shattered rear sliding door. With help from a Sheriff’s Office interior drone, officers saw one dog dead and another injured inside the home. Police entered and discovered Schefer on the staircase with two gunshot wounds to the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity and cause of death.
The two dogs had each been shot at least once, police said. No one else was found inside. Detectives with SRPD’s Violent Crimes Investigations Team took over the case and, based on early work at the scene and follow-up interviews, believe the homicide was an isolated, targeted incident.
